I think I'm in love with Knitty's Emerald Seas, but unfortunately I am not wealthy and can't afford the superposh 100% silk yarn that the pattern calls for. I've done a little snooping and have found that apparently cotton might be an appropriate substitution, but I'm not sure. I finally picked up the fall KnitScene last week and I cannot tell you how much I am in love with the Breton girl sweater! I've never heard of the recommended yarn though, the Elle Stretch DK (90% acrylic, 10% stretch polyester)...it doesn't sound like something I would normally want to knit an entire sweater out of, but I like the texture it seems ( Read more... )

Has anyone made the flogger from Naughty Needles? I really would like to make it, but I don't know if it's effective or just for the pleasure of knitting a flogger. Also, I'm not going to make it if I can't find a suitible (and admittedly cheaper) alternative to suede that isn't an animal product, and knitting it out of lanyard just seems tacky ( Read more... )

I want to make Eunny Jang's Endpaper Mitts. Eunny originally used Louet Gems Pearl and Koigu Premium Merino. But I want to use cotton instead of wool, because the recipient has eczema. I'm thinking of using Rowan 4 Ply Cotton. Yea or nay?

Has anyone here worked with Rowan Felted Tweed DK? A sweater pattern I am looking at calls for Jo Sharp Silkroad DK and I was thinking of substituting with the Rowan, but I've never worked with it before.

The Jo Sharp is 85% wool, 10% silk, and 5% cashmere. The Rowan is 50% merino wool, 25% alpaca 25% viscose/rayon. I read a review of the worsted ( Read more... )
